HANSEL AND GRETEL
10/12/2012 - 10/28/2012 Hansel and Gretel is one of the many stories collected and published by the Grimm brothers, Jacob and Wilhelm, in the early part of the 19th century. This and other stories were criticized for being violent and gruesome while trying to teach a lesson. Over the years the story of Hansel and Gretel has gone through many changes, most notably changing the character of the wicked stepmother who bore a very close resemblance to the witch. The music you hear with our production is from the opera by Engelbert Humperdinck which premiered in 1893. It evolved from a script written by his sister for family entertainment at Christmas. Directed by: Jim Volkert Smoke Ring
